Ebony woods（wumu）is a term used for buried wood or carbonized wood. They are formed thousands of years, or even more than 10，000 years, through carbonization under certain natural condition after being buried beneath on ancient water course due to lithosphere movement. Not all ancient trees turn into wumu. Normally, this process only happens to those tree species with fragrances or sterilizing qualities such as nanmu （phoebeborunei）, Chinese toon and camphor a veneer, etc．
wumu have mainly been excavated in Sichuan Basin，and they represent one of the major treasure of Sichuan province. According to 14C data，the age of most wumu is 3000—10,000 years ago. The location of the Jinsha site sacrifice area has the name “wumutuo（ebony wood river bay）”, referring to it as origin of wumu. This is supported by the large amount of wumu unearthed along the east site of the sacrificial area. The ebony wood at this location include over 60 specimens，showing the flourishing eco-environment of ancient Sichuan and the process of environmental change. Due to the diverse and attractive natural shapes of wumu in addition to its permanent color and resistance to worms and other decaying factors，it is an ideal material for making artwork.
Numerous types of jade objects unearthed at the Jinsha site vary enormously in color and shape, representing the excellence of handcrafts in this region. So far, more than 2000 jade wares have been unearthed in Jinsha.
